Accident cover.
A lump sum payment if you are permanently injured or unable to work following an accident. Often paired with income protection for higher-risk occupations.
A lump sum when an accident changes things.
Personal accident cover pays a lump sum if you are permanently disabled following an accident. It is a niche product but it can be a useful add-on for higher-risk occupations, for people who do not qualify for income protection due to their job or hobbies, or as a top-up to critical illness cover for the specific risk of accidents.
- Lump sum on permanent injury — Payment on loss of limb, sight, or permanent disability.
- Suitable for higher-risk jobs — Where income protection is difficult to obtain due to occupation.
- Cheaper than critical illness — A more focused (and cheaper) product than full critical illness cover.
- Standalone or as top-up — Can be a primary policy or an addition to existing income protection.
- No medical usually required — Most accident policies are underwritten on a simple declaration.
Three steps. One person. No jargon.
The same process for every accident cover enquiry, whether it is your first mortgage or your fifth.
The household conversation
We start with who depends on your income and what your household commitments look like, before we look at any policy.
Compare the small print
We compare exclusions, definitions, and premiums across the market. Cheaper is not always better on protection.
Written recommendation
You get a plain-English report explaining what we recommend, what it covers, what it does not, and what it will cost.
What you will pay.
We do not charge you a fee for protection advice. We are paid a commission by the product provider, which is included in the premium and disclosed to you in writing before you commit to anything.
Our recommendation is based on what is right for your household, not on which provider pays the most commission.
Questions we get about accident cover.
01Is accident cover the same as income protection?+
No. Income protection pays a monthly income if you cannot work for any medical reason (illness or injury). Accident cover pays a lump sum only after an accident that causes permanent injury.
02When would I need this rather than income protection?+
Some occupations (roofers, scaffolders, offshore workers) cannot get income protection at a sensible price, or at all. Accident cover fills part of the gap. It is also useful for hobbies (motorcycling, extreme sports) that would exclude you from income protection.
03Is a medical required?+
Usually not. Personal accident cover is typically underwritten on a simple declaration about your occupation and general health.
