Home/Protection/Home insurance

Home insurance.

Home Insurance protects both your home inside and out — covering your building and belongings against fire, flood, theft and accidental damage.

Buildings and contents.

Buildings insurance protects the structure of your home. Contents insurance protects your belongings. Most lenders will require buildings cover before they release the mortgage funds, and we can arrange it as part of the mortgage completion. Contents cover is optional but almost always worth it, especially if you have expensive electronics, bicycles or jewellery.

  • Buildings insurance — Covers the structure of your home against fire, flood, subsidence and other perils.
  • Contents insurance — Covers your belongings inside the home against theft, damage and loss.
  • Combined buildings & contents — Usually cheaper than buying the two policies separately.
  • Accidental damage extension — Covers damage you cause yourself (spilt wine on the carpet, phone dropped in the bath).
  • Home emergency cover — Optional 24-hour helpline for boiler breakdowns, blocked drains, roof damage.
How it works

Three steps. One person. No jargon.

The same process for every home insurance enquiry, whether it is your first mortgage or your fifth.

01

The household conversation

We start with who depends on your income and what your household commitments look like, before we look at any policy.

02

Compare the small print

We compare exclusions, definitions, and premiums across the market. Cheaper is not always better on protection.

03

Written recommendation

You get a plain-English report explaining what we recommend, what it covers, what it does not, and what it will cost.

Costs

What you will pay.

We do not charge you a fee for protection advice. We are paid a commission by the product provider, which is included in the premium and disclosed to you in writing before you commit to anything.

Our recommendation is based on what is right for your household, not on which provider pays the most commission.

Common questions

Questions we get about home insurance.

01Do I need buildings insurance?+

Yes if you have a mortgage. Your lender will require buildings cover in place before they release the funds. If you own outright, buildings insurance is optional but strongly recommended.

02How much contents cover do I need?+

Add up the replacement cost of your belongings room by room. Most people are surprised how high it is once they include electronics, clothing, kitchenware and furniture.

03Should I include accidental damage?+

For most families, yes. It covers the everyday mishaps that would otherwise not be claimable.

04Are my bicycles / high-value items covered?+

Standard contents cover usually caps single-item claims at £1,000 to £2,500. Items above that need to be specifically listed on the policy.
